The Marietta Band program provides students with opportunities to grow as musicians, leaders, and contributing members of our community. Students participate in a variety of ensembles and performances throughout the year, representing Marietta with pride both on stage and beyond. Our program is committed to building a culture of excellence, where every student has the opportunity to succeed and contribute.
Students at Marietta can participate in multiple band experiences, including:

Beginning Bands - introductory ensemble where students learn the fundamentals of playing a band instrument, reading music, and performing together for the first time.

Junior Winds – Focused on developing tone, technique, and ensemble performance through a wide range of repertoire

Marching Band – A spirited and visible ensemble performing at football games, parades, and community events

Jazz Band – Exploring jazz styles, improvisation, and contemporary music

Symphonic Winds - a top-level concert band made up of highly skilled musicians who perform challenging repertoire with a focus on precision, artistry, and refined ensemble performance.
Instructional Staff
Steve Brown
Director of Bands
Steve Brown serves as the Director of Bands for the elementary program. With over 20 years of professional experience, he is a highly sought after performer and soloist within the Mid-Ohio Valley and surrounding areas. Steve works for Marietta City Schools, teaching band and and general music to elementary age students, and has been the organist and pianist at Christ United Methodist Church since 2016. He resides in Marietta with his wife, Libby and sons, Aaron, Asher, and Owen.
Shirelle Barnett
Director of Bands
Shirelle Barnett is the Director of Bands at both the middle school and high school, where she leads a comprehensive band program focused on musical growth, collaboration, and student engagement. With over 15 years of teaching experience, Shirelle has worked with students across all levels, from kindergarten through college, bringing a broad and adaptable approach to music education.She resides in Marietta with her husband John, and sons Jack and Eli.
JD Benson
Voice of the Wall of Sound
J.D. Benson serves as the Director of Choirs at the elementary level and as the announcer for the marching band. He brings energy, clarity, and professionalism to every performance, engaging audiences and helping showcase the band’s hard work and talent throughout the season.
Alyssa Jones
Color Guard Instructor
Alyssa Jones has worked with the Wall of Sound Color Guard for 2 years. She is a committed and hard working instructor. Additionally, she teaches 5th grade at Marietta Elementary School and graduated from Western Governor's University.
Marshall Smith
Percussion Instructor
Marshall Smith has worked with the Wall of Sound Marching Band for X years. He is highly skilled in the areas of battery and front ensemble percussion. At Marietta, he also directs the Indoor Percussion Program during the winter months. Mr. Smith graduated from Ohio University.
Sage Gibbs
Visual / Audio / Music Staff
Sage Gibbs has been with the Wall of Sound Marching Band for X years. He heads the visual / audio needs of the band. Sage marched for Legends Drum Corps.
